Our History

We are people of prayer and the WORD, and we stand on these premises based on the Biblical instruction: “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone …” (1Timothy 2:1). We intrinsically believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give each other and to the world is the gift of prayer. We witness Christ to the hurting world. We pray for nations and leaders, pastors and those in authority; we pray for the homeless, aborted babies, the sick, the down trodden, and the dying. We pray for repentance of nations, and sincere return to God. We pray for family, friends, associates, and even enemies. We pray for those who have no one to pray for them. We gather every night to pray and share the Word of God. We pray the Divine Mercy prayer, Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, Precious Blood Prayers, as well as other prayers of the Passion of Christ. We pray for healing, deliverance, and for the renewal of the mind, soul and spirit through the ministering of the Word of God. This is our culture; that is our legacy!

As a Child, brother Uwakwe had several spiritual experiences, which heightened as he was growing up- unknown to him that God was calling him. In his early twenties, the love of God welled up strongly in him that he developed astute determination to seek the face of God in fasting, prayers, and studying the Bible. In several occasions, the Lord had told him that he was called to lead people to God, without him understanding what the Lord meant. For 10 years, the Lord sent him to the school of suffering and hardship, during which the Lord ministered to him that it is a season of preparation for the work He wants to accomplish through him. In the course of time, he found a balance between career life and ministry life. Brother Uwakwe believes that God’s natural endowments in us are meant to be used to serve God; he frowns at the practice of God’s gifts displacing the position of God in us.

At the due time, the Lord asked him to start the prayerline, which started in June 20, 2012. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary Ministries (HJM) started as the Holy Spirit Prayerline with only 3 members. Now, by God’s Grace, we have grown to over 350 people. Then, we met once a week on Wednesdays, until the LORD asked Brother on the 10th of October, 2012 to operate the prayerline daily. Our Holy Mother promised to go with him in the course of Her Son’s work, and also requested that Rosary be prayed daily before getting to the prayerline. As a result, we pray the Rosary on the prayerline daily, one hour before commencing the daily general prayers. In February 2015, the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Ministries commissioned the Youth Ministry Prayerline, where the youths and young adults gather every week on Saturdays to pray together on the prayerline. They receive ministration and guidance from adult coordinators and youth ministers. They are trained to study the Bible, which gears them towards higher understanding of the power and love of God. The models for our youths are the Biblical Daniel and Samuel.

The prayerline community is growing very fast, and many non-Catholics and run-away Catholics are returning home. We strictly follow the teachings of the Catholic Faith and the Holy Bible. We have about 50 Nuns in the prayerline, and 4 Catholic Priests who minister to us. We are officially registered with the State of South Carolina as Hearts of Jesus & Mary Miniseries (HJM). The prayerline is a Bible-believing community.

As the leader of this great Ministry, I acknowledge the greatest leader in history- our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a leader, Jesus stuck to his mission. As a ministry, we must do as Jesus did and avoid anything that doesn’t relate to our mission of spreading the gospel and serving God’s people. As a leader, I am always presented with many opportunities the ministry could pursue, but Jesus, who had ALL power stuck to his mission, which He directly related to His Father’s business and nothing else. As this ministry moves forward, we must follow the example of Jesus and steadfastly pursue our God given mission. As a leader, Jesus formed a team. Just as Jesus did, we get more work accomplished through the relationships and teamwork of our members. He wasted no time in forming a team by simply saying, “Follow me”. He made room for all kinds of people of different skills and backgrounds. Even Jesus knew he could not change the world alone—just like it is with the church leadership today. If we want to achieve anything of significance, it takes different ideas and God’s blessings that come from working together. Jesus said if two or three of us join together, then He will be there also. That’s the perfect team for total success.

We have obeyed this scripture by forming the following HJM ministries- singing, Intercessory, Programs Director & Logistics, Technology Coordinators, Testimony Coordination, and Ministry Shop & Finance Coordinators. As a leader, Jesus saw his people as his greatest accomplishment. He said of his disciples, “It is in them that I am glorified.” (John 17:10). Of all the miracles Jesus performed, in the end he considered the growth of his people to be the most important. Just as Jesus did, we as a ministry, celebrate the changes made in the lives of people as our greatest accomplishment. As a leader of HJM, it is only when souls are saved that I have been successful. Yes, we should be proud of the many contributions we have made over the years. But as Jesus did, let us claim our lasting legacy by the souls we lead to God, the families we encourage and the lives we touch in a positive way.

We aspire to be a place of hope and refuge—to demonstrate excellence in service, deep compassion and motivation to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of not only our church body, but that our ministry reaches people everywhere.
